Snailhouse Acoustic Set
While on tour in Germany Mike Feuerstack aka Snailhouse stopped by at College Radio Berlin-Brandenburg in order to play three songs from his new album "Lies on the Prize" (out on October 17th). Snailhouse Solo-Tour
Snailhouse ist das Bandprojekt des kanadischen Songwriters Mike Feuerstack. Dabei vereint er Einflüsse aus Country, Blues und Rock und erzählt persönliche Geschichten in Liedern, die zeitlos klingen. Auf dieser Tour wird Mike die Lieder des neuen, von Jeremy Gara (Arcade Fire) produzierten Albums in einer speziellen Solo-Show darbieten.

Mock Orange is getting great press these days for their most recent full-length record entitled Captain Love. 4.5 out of 5 points is not that bad, we think.

Mock Orange - The Making of Captain Love



On September 26, 2008, Mock Orange will release their latest offering, Captain Love, on Mi Amante Records (pre-order here). The album was recorded over the better part of last year in Nashville, Tennessee with Jeremy Ferguson (Josh Rouse, Be Your Own Pet).
While in the studio, the band took several video segments which have been turned into a documentary called "The Making of Captain Love." Clocking in at just over 8 minutes, the piece is an genuine, introspective, and, at times, even humorous look at history of the band and the process it went through to make this great record. The documentary unequivocally demonstrates that Mock Orange is one of the most original and underrated indie rock bands of our time.
Following the official release, Mock Orange will head out on a national tour with Phoenix, Arizona's Miniature Tigers (Modern Art/Epic). Tour dates include:

Mike Feuerstack aka Snailhouse interviewed on Herohill.com
We had a chance to ask Mike Feuerstack (Snailhouse) - Canadian song writing's best longtime, unknown artist - a few questions. He's been putting out records for years, each one seemingly better than the one prior. Lies on The Prize just came out, and it's easily on my list of Best-of for Canadian music '08.

So, sit back, relax and enjoy.

HH:: Musically, the new record - Lies on the Prize - seems to have some of the warmest, happiest tracks I can remember hearing from you. Was that a conscious decision or just an indication of where you at these days?
MF:: I'm inclined to think that this record just has a broader scope. It may have some of the happiest, but it also has some of the darkest and most cynical work I've done. I can't say it was conscious, but I do think I became aware of it as it unfolded, and decided not to edit away the extremities while working. Read more

SNAILHOUSE solo tour * 28.09. - 05.10. * SHOWS GESUCHT
Mike Feuerstack aka SNAILHOUSE möchte im Anschluss der BELL ORCHESTRE-Tour gerne ein paar Solo-Konzerte in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz spielen, bevor er Ende November mit seiner dreiköpfigen Band wieder nach Europa kommt. Das neue Album "Lies On The Prize" (Mi Amante/Cargo) wird am 17. Oktober in Deutschland veröffentlicht. In Kanada, wo es vergangene Woche erschien, erhält es derzeit hervorragende Kritiken. Mitgewirkt hat im übrigen der langjährige Wegbegleiter Jeremy Gara, der früher mit Mike bei KEPLER aktiv war und heute bei ARCADE FIRE trommelt.

Headlights: New Daytrotter session is up!
Cherry Tulips, On April 2, Market Girl and Some Racing, Some Stopping - All these songs were re-invented for the Daytrotter sessions. We used all the great vintage gear - old keyboards and an upright bass, loop pedals and what not. They have really cool toys. Enjoy!

Mit an Bord: Saturday Looks Good To Me. Die 6 Musiker aus Michigan verstehen sich selbst als Popband. Da sieht man wieder , wie frei auslegbar dieser Begriff ist. Die Musik von SLGTM vereint 60s Pop mit Indierock, straighten Rhythmus mit frickligem Drumming, einfache Instrumentierung mit orchestralen Arrangements und umgekehrt. Gegensätze ziehen sich bei SLGTM nicht nur an, sie verschmelzen miteinander, und das macht die Band zu einem tollen Erlebnis.
Tiefe Wasser sind still und wunderschön. The Black Atlantic sind die perfekte Ergänzung zu SLGTM. Traumhaft gespielte Popsongs, dazu eine große Stimme, erzeugen eine beeindruckende Mischung, die ein wenig an Copeland und die früheren Jimmy Eat World erinnert. Mit The Black Atlantic und Saturday Looks Good To Me wird Euch der Samstag nach der Show definitiv gut stehen, wenn ihr mit strahlendem Lächeln allen erzählen könnt, was für eine tolle Show ihr erlebt habt.

2. Mai @ Platoon/Factory: Soli-Konzert für Callum Robbins
Am 2. Mai findet in der Magdeburger Factory, genauer gesagt im Nebenraum Platoon, ein Soli-Konzert für Callum Robbins statt. Cal ist der Sohn von Janet Morgan und J. Robbins. Letzterer ist uns allen als Mitglied von Jawbox, Burning Airlines und Channels sowie als Produzent unzähliger Alben aus unserem Plattenregal bekannt. Der zweijährige Cal Robbins leidet an Spinaler Muskelatrophie, einem Muskelschwund, der nur eine geringe Lebenserwartung zur Folge hat. Der Erlös des Konzertes - bei dem die drei Bands Enrico, Laura Mars und Mr. Montymore auftreten werden - geht an die Familie von Callum und soll ihnen dabei helfen, die Behandlungskosten zu decken. Headlights veröffentlichen ihr zweites Album "Some Racing, Some Stopping"
"Some Racing, Some Stopping", das zweite Album von Headlights ist seit Freitag offiziell in Deutschland erhältlich. Den im Vergleich zu den USA verspäteten VÖ-Termin hätten sich Band und Label vermutlich sparen können, denn wie schon bei ihrem ersten Full-Length "Kill Them With Kindness" ignoriert auch dieses Mal die hiesige Musikpresse die mittlerweile zum Quintett angewachsene Gruppe aus Champaign, IL. Lediglich Christian hat sich für das Nillson Fanzine die Mühe gemacht und eine Rezension geschrieben. Persönlich finde ich das neue Album deutlich besser als ihr Debüt, da wesentlich vielschichtiger und ausgereifter. Wer die Band noch nicht kennt, möge sich bitte die Songs bei Myspace oder den Auftritt beim Radiosender Woxy anhören.
Im Mi Amante Shop gibt es jetzt alle Veröffentlichungen in je beiden Formaten.

Headlights "Some Racing, Some Stopping" in stores now
The new full-length record from Headlights, Some Racing Some Stopping, is in stores today! Based around Tristan Wraight's acoustic guitar and Erin Fein's keyboards, the songs purposefully lack much of the spacey atmospherics that define the band's earlier work. The album is steeped in a classic pop sensibility, reminiscent of the '60s, Brill Building song craft, and Phil Spector production. Be sure to grab your copy of the record that Paste called "instant indie-pop bliss."

Björn Kleinhenz on tour
Winter took his life (SWE), Cedarwell (USA) and Björn kleinhenz (SWE) head out on the roads together in January 2008.
They bring with them a totally fresh split mini album "Sing Out!" released on swedish label Take One More Take featuring three songs each. On stage they will perform the songs together, as one band. a cute little three piece lo-fi ensemble doing the most of what they have at hand. Singing, picking, shaking, clapping, dancing and loads of glockenspiel paying odes to the early bruce springsteen. All three of the guys have been touring extensively the last few years. Cedarwell (aka Erik Neave) has pretty much played every town in America, crashing in the back of his station wagon.
Björn Kleinhenz and Susanna Branding of Winter Took His Life have done quite a few collaborations over the last year. Aloha "Light Works" 12" delayed
I'm sorry to announce that the Aloha "Light Works" 12" is still not here. Back in November the pressing plant promised to have the records done by Christmas. Around this time they told me that December 28th would be the date they will send everything off. So the last three days I've been like a cat on a hot tin roof...but nothing happened. However, the records left the pressing plant today (Friday) and will most likely be at my house on Monday. Thanks for being patient.

This collection of seven new Aloha songs was conceived to be an end-of-the-calender-year pleasant surprise: a care package or a thank you note to fans and anyone who might be curious. But Aloha has a problem doing anything halfway, and the result is a set of Aloha’s most gorgeous, ambitious and fully-realized songs. Instead of saying thanks, Aloha is probably saying hello to a bunch of new listeners.

Each song is based on Tony’s acoustic guitars, but the world they inhabit is vintage Aloha: richly detailed, moody, intensely rhythmic and flowing with melody. It’s probably Aloha’s most inviting release, in spirit and in sound. Aloha multi-instrumentalist and studio wizard T.J. Lipple mixes in the studio magic while leaving the free-spirited vibe of the recording sessions intact (the EP’s closer, for example, is mainly a song written over an improvised piece). Piano, brass, oddly tuned guitars, drums, bass, mallet instruments and vintage keyboards fill out the arrangements.

Mona (ex-Victory at Sea) + Anar (ex-Metal Hearts) = Travels
Here is what Pitchfork wrote about Travels, the new project of Mona Elliott from Victory At Sea and Anar Badalov of Metal Hearts:
As the story goes, travels spawned Travels. Whilst on tour in Europe late last year, Anar Badalov of Suicide Squeeze brooders Metal Hearts and Mona Elliott of Gern Blandsten brooders Victory at Sea spent some quality time together. And the press release preciously sums up the rest: "After weeks spent dancing until morning, drinking thick German beer, and getting pulled over by the police (just because the bands were labeled 'sadcore' doesn't mean they didn't have fun!), Anar and Mona fell in love. Upon arriving home they moved in together and gave birth to Travels on their living room floor."
And so, on October 30, they offer their baby unto the world, self-releasing the self-titled Travels debut album. In addition to hard copies, they also plan to share their wares digitally via iTunes and eMusic. And if the name's ringing a tiny bell somewhere in the back of your occipital lobe, perhaps you noticed it among the heavy-hitters covering Huey Lewis and the News (the lone post-millennial Huey cut, no less) on that forthcoming tribute?
Anyhow, folks who think ahead like that can preorder the debut via the band's MySpace beginning September 24. Make haste and you'll be rewarded with one of 500 one-of-a-kind, handmade covers featuring artwork from Elliott.
Travels hope to, yes, travel in tour-like fashion in the coming year. Another European excursion has been tentatively sketched out for January and February, with U.S. dates to follow.

Abgesehen von "Deutschland. Ein Sommermärchen" gab es für den einen oder anderen sicherlich noch andere besondere Momente in 2006. Für Lasse vom Online Magazine Crazewire war es der folgende:

Noch 5 Tage bis zur Abgabe meiner Examenshausarbeit. Langsam wird die Zeit knapp. So richtig weiß ich immer noch nicht, worum es in dem Fall eigentlich geht. Mittlerweile haben wir nach Mitternacht. Ich sitze noch vorm Laptop, schaue aber eher aus dem Fenster ins Dunkel, als auf den Bildschirm. Pause. Noch mal zehn Minuten Pause, Luft holen, etwas essen. Danach noch ein Stündchen tippen. Irgendwie fällt mir in diesem Moment wieder das Packet vom Thomas von Mi Amante Records ein, das seit ein paar Tagen ungeöffnet in der Ecke steht. Ich kenne das Label noch nicht und will es eigentlich auch noch nicht kennen lernen, da das ja nur "ablenkt". Ich öffne das Päckchen trotzdem und fische die erste CD heraus. Björn Kleinhenz, "Trans Pony". Noch nie gehört.
"I said hello to an old friend, hope I see you soon again". Mit diesen Worten beginnt das Album, das mich sofort gefangen nimmt. Ich sitze am Schreibtisch, schaue ins Dunkel und höre diese wunderschönen Songs, diese wunderschönen Texte. Immer wieder. "If I had three wishes, I´d make you my first. I´d throw away the second and give you my third...". Ich weiß bis heute nicht warum, aber dieses Album hat mir Kraft gegeben und dazu das Gefühl, das alles gut wird. Was ich immer noch glaube, obwohl ich damals durch das Examen geflogen bin.

Ich treffe Björn im Stereo Wonderland in Köln, um ein Interview für Crazewire mit ihm zu führen. Es ist gut zu wissen, dass es auch Musiker da draußen gibt, die genau so höflich und nett sind, wie man sie sich vorgestellt hat. Das Gespräch ist ehrlich und nett und Björn ungemein sympathisch. Leider verpasse ich sein Konzert, da die deutsche Bahn zu früh den letzten Zug nach Hause fahren lässt.

Im Februar habe ich den letzten Versuch mein Examen zu schaffen. Nebenbei soll ich über meinen persönlichen Crazewire-Moment des Jahres schreiben. Von allen Erlebnissen ist mir nur dieser Moment mitten im Examensstress wirklich in Erinnerung geblieben, weil er mir wieder mal bewusst gemacht hat, wie stark Musik eigentlich sein kann.

Stop violence!
I have never posted personal statements or opinions about the so called Punk/DIY scene on this website, but after receiving an email that I'm not willing to accept without comment, I feel like I have to do this. You may or may not have read on some Myspace pages that I owe a guy called Emil from Blackstar Foundation money. Yes, it's true. I owed him 149.23 Euros to be exact. But this is a long story which ended with him threatening me with physical violence. In an email Emil said that he was going to hire a lawyer and then wrote: "Or I could fill a car with a few friends, go to Magdeburg and bring a baseball bat, but i'm not down at that low level yet... but i'm thinking of it"
I'm not willing to consider this a joke or something like that, especially after what I witnessed in my younger days when Nazi-Skinheads walked through the streets attacking immigrants, black people, punks, hip-hoppers and homeless people in Eastern Germany after the wall came down. On May 9th 1992, around 50 Nazis met at a youth club in Magdeburg, got into their cars and drove to a party held by punks. They attacked the guests with baseball bats and pipes. In the end, 8 of them were taken to hospital. The 23-year-old punk Thorsten Lamprecht died three days later. More stories like this could be told.
Obviously, I don't wanna call Emil a Nazi, but in my opinion being in the punk rock scene and accepting violence do not match. So in no way I'm willing to accept violence or threats of violence - especially not in the Punk/Hardcore/DIY scene. That's why I've decided to make this public. I will no longer work with Emil, all records released by him have already been taken out of the distro and I will not set up any show for a band he plays in. However, I already cleared the debts.

Musika 77 "Brave You Free May" CD available for Pre-Order
Musika 77 is the Swedish 3-piece led by singer-songwriter Johann Krantz. Brave You Free May is their sophomore release, following their 2003 debut; Seek Ye First The Kingdom Of Music 77. Recorded with friends in a self-built studio in Gothenburg during late 2005 and early 2006, the recordings were free and fast. Rehearsals were kept to a minimum, first-take recordings were preferred, capturing the moment the songs came to life.
 
"Brave You Free May" is now available for Pre-Order from our Store. Each Pre-Order will include a free Musika 77 Button and a sticker.

Schaut man derzeit aus dem Fenster, könnte man meinen, der Herbst ist schon da. Die perfekte Platte für die tristen Tage veröffentlichen wir jedoch erst am 03. November und bis dahin hoffen wir auch noch auf ein paar sonnige Tage. Nichtsdestotrotz hat die Redaktion des Magazins Nordische-Musik.de das kommende Album von Musika 77 bereits jetzt zur Platte des Monats ausgezeichnet. Gregor Samsa's "27:36 + 2dot" LP back in print

Headlights 12" is available in the U.S. through Interpunk
Good news for people from the U.S.: The Headlights' 12" is now available for order through Interpunk. Bad news for people who are waiting for the white vinyl. The records seem to have disappeared on their way to Polyvinyl Records or the US Customs Service is holding them back...nobody knows. We'll let you know as soon as they show up. However, copies of the white vinyl are still available from our store.

Gregor Samsa's "55:12" on sale now
"55:12" the debut full-length by Gregor Samsa can now be ordered in our store.
This four piece Richmond band exhibits a talent and grace well beyond their years. After the release of two stellar EP's, Gregor Samsa delivers their much anticipated debut full length. "55:12" is an eight song journey submerged in dreamy, multi-layered atmospherics. The band blurs the lines of ambient and indie, from heavy and dark one moment to hushed and serene the next, all while angelic guy/girl vocals drift overhead. Gregor Samsa is Champ Bennett, Nikki King, Jason Laferrera and Billy Bennett.
The album was tracked at the Recorditorium in Richmond, engineered by Jason Laferrera and produced by Gregor Samsa. The mix was done by Brian Paulson (Slint, Wilco, Beck).
Gregor Samsa just finished their U.S. Tour and will be back in Europe in May.

Headlights' 12" arrived on the doorstep today.
Just in time for the beginning of their three months long U.S. Tour the 12" by Headlights is available via Mail Order. 100 copies were pressed on white vinyl and the 12" has one more track than the CD EP on Polyvinyl Records.

Björn Kleinhenz tours Germany and Switzerland
We're thrilled to announce that Gothenburg's Björn Kleinhenz will be returning to Germany and Switzerland to play a couple of solo acoustic shows. Several confirmed dates have been posted in the tour section. He will present his new songs which he's currently recording in his own recording studio. Expect the release of his third yet untitled album in late summer. Three months after the offical release in Germany, his most recent album "Trans Pony" is still getting great reviews. Read what Spex, one of Germany's most influential music magazines, wrote:
"Wenig düster ist Björn Kleinhenz, gebürtiger Stuttgart, den es anno 1981 nach Schweden verschlug und der nicht nur Teil von Boy Omega ist, sondern auch eine eigene Band hat. Headlights "The Enemies EP" one-sided LP
The song "everybody needs a fence to lean on" by the Headlights, the newest addition to the mi amante roster, was featured in the TV show "Grey's Anatomy" this week. Click here to watch the video. Many people have been asking for the lyrics which you can find here.
Champaign's restless indie pop trio will be touring the United States in March and April, including the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. The dates are up on the tour pages.
Currently, the one-sided LP of their debut CD-EP including the vinyl-only track "Pity City" is at the pressing plant. It is to be officially released on April 7 and can be ordered earlier through the online store. 100 copies are pressed on white vinyl and will only be available from us, Polyvinyl Records in the US and at the band's shows.

Björn Kleinhenz Release & Tour
"Trans Pony", das zweite Album des schwedischen Singer/Songwriters Björn Kleinhenz ist seit vergangenem Freitag offiziell auch in Deutschland erhältlich. Die Presse reagiert sehr wohlwollend auf den Mix aus Schweden-Pop und Americana; dabei werden immer wieder Vergleiche zu Kristofer Aström und Christian Kjellvander gezogen. Sowohl die Redaktion von Plattentests.de wie auch die von Gaesteliste.de haben Trans Pony zum Album der Woche gekürt.

Björn Kleinhenz Trans Pony out December 2nd
Björn Kleinhenz was born near Stuttgart in 1981 and moved to Sweden a few years later. He started writing his first songs as a solo artist after stranding in Ireland in 2000. Immediately after his return to Sweden, he started recording them and has been releasing record after record since then. This spring, new material was released on a split CD with Rob & The Pinhole Stars on Mi Amante Records. After meeting him, we've decided to re-release Trans Pony, his critically acclaimed second full-length, on December 2nd in Germany. Three days later he'll start his pre-Christmas tour in Hamburg.
