As if ‘Shake a Mountain’ was a successful attempt in bringing the band to maturity, the uptight hyperactivity of their early days has given way to a cautiously chosen approach to style and epoch. For example Rivalry, with its discreet keyboard and a melody that would have got the dancehalls rocking forty years ago, sounds like one of those pop-bands whose records simply everybody puts into protective sleeves. ‘I Remember’ with its cheerful rhythm and a banjo popping up here and there shows a glimpse of country – just to turn into pure indierock again that makes you tap your toes. To sum it up: this record is very good. It comes along freshly – there is no musty smell of retro-spirit breath. …because indierock has never been dead. There!
